SSL Collections Clerk

Qualifications and Detail about the Position

Summary:

We are looking for a competent Collections Clerk to contact clients and collect outstanding payments. You will strike a balance between maintaining trustful relationships and ensuring timely payments. Our Collections Clerk should exhibit professionalism and trustworthiness. You should have excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as an ability to work independently.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to)

  • Update AR aging report for weekly calls; Report account status and collection efforts

  • Monitor and update Cash Receipts reports

  • Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts

  • Contact and pursue clients with past due balance and negotiate payment arrangements

  • Work with billing department to resolve customer disputes

  • Investigate historical data for each debt

  • Take actions to encourage timely debt payments

  • Send demand letters as needed

  • Prepare documents to send customers to collections

  • Work to reach and maintain targets regarding past due aging and DSO

  • Maintain detailed customer information on delinquent accounts, including contact information

  • Maintain accurate credit and collections files and notes for each customer

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques (e.g., skip tracing)

  • Familiarity with laws related to debt collection (e.g., FDCPA)

  • Comfortable working with targets

  • Patience and ability to manage stress

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Skilled in negotiation

  • Problem-solving skills

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED

  • Previous experience as a Collections Specialist or similar role

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Microsoft Teams
